60% of Students from Premier Engineering Schools Lack Job Offers: Report

NEW DELHI: A recent report reveals that 60% of students from top engineering institutions do not have a job offer upon graduation. This finding underscores concerns about the effectiveness of traditional campus hiring practices.
According to the Unstop Talent Report 2025, nearly 40% of graduates from business and engineering schools feel that there are not enough companies visiting their campuses, limiting their job prospects. While business schools continue to attract significant recruiter interest—86% of students report visits from up to 150 companies—the situation is different for engineering and arts students. Only 60% of engineering students and 71% of arts and science students report receiving fewer than 50 company visits.
The report raises the question of whether campus recruitment models are becoming outdated or if students are opting for other opportunities, such as off-campus drives and digital platforms. It suggests that industries must reconsider their hiring strategies and align with the evolving expectations of Gen Z, emphasizing the importance of expanding access to off-campus job opportunities.
As employers adapt to changing recruitment trends, the report highlights the need for new models to meet the career aspirations of today’s graduates.
