The Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday announced to grant the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) the status of a deemed university. The announcement was made during the 63rd foundation day celebrations of the NCERT.
According to the Union government, the latest move will transform the landscape of education in India. The NCERT is stated to be an apex body for school education that plays a key role in shaping the educational framework and school curriculum. Now with the body granted deemed university status it would widen the scope of improvement in the sector.
While speaking on the occasion Union minister Pradhan said that this would also help in advancing educational research and bring innovation in curriculum development. He said, “NCERT has been at the forefront of educational excellence in India for decades. This elevation to deemed university status is a testament to its dedication and commitment to enhancing the quality of education in our country. It will provide NCERT with greater autonomy and resources to further its mission.”
According to the Union minister, the latest government move will transform NCERT into a deemed university with the authority to grant degrees and diplomas, and enable it to offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses. This will not only benefit education sector but will benefit students seeking a higher level of education with a focus on curriculum development.
The status of deemed university for NCERT will also help the education body to engage in international collaborations, research partnerships, and knowledge sharing with other prestigious educational institutions worldwide.
