Ritu Suhas, born on April 16, 1976, in Lucknow, comes from a humble background. Her father, RP Sharma, is a lawyer in the Lucknow High Court, while her mother, Janak Devi, is a homemaker. Ritu faced educational challenges as her family’s income was limited during her student years. In addition to Ritu, her household consists of a brother and a sister.
Ritu Suhas’ educational journey led her to Navyug Girls College, but during that period, her family adhered to traditional beliefs that discouraged girls from pursuing higher education or careers. Ritu’s decision to prepare for a government job in 2003 was met with resistance from her relatives who did not approve of her choice.
During her preparation for the UP PCS civil service exam, Ritu Suhas received crucial support from her parents. However, financial constraints made it challenging for her to afford coaching fees. Despite these hurdles, she maintained a rigorous self-study routine, dedicating herself to her goals. There came a point where she couldn’t even afford a daily newspaper by the end of the month. In order to make ends meet, Ritu began providing tuition to local children.
Ritu is a dedicated Provincial Civil Service officer renowned within the Uttar Pradesh government for her diligent efforts. Apart from her administrative achievements, Ritu Suhas also won the Mrs. India competition in 2019.
Ritu tied the knot with Suhas LY, an IAS officer and accomplished international para-badminton player, in 2008, and they are proud parents of two children. Ritu proudly shared that her husband, Suhas LY, clinched a silver medal at the Tokyo Paralympics due to his unwavering dedication, rigorous training and commitment to his responsibilities without taking breaks, even during festive seasons.
Suhas LY, not only a Tokyo Paralympic silver medalist but also currently holding the position of CEO at the Noida and Greater Noida Authority, has had a remarkable career trajectory. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Uttar Pradesh government entrusted him with the role of District Magistrate for Gautam Budh Nagar on March 3, 2020, where he has been actively serving the community. Suhas has previously held the District Magistrate position in various districts, including Maharajganj, Sonbhadra, Hathras, Prayagraj, Jaunpur and Azamgarh.
