Stories of candidates who successfully crack the Union Civil Service Commission (UPSC) exams are inspirational and unparalleled. These students exhibit a level of dedication and hard work, which is needed to achieve one’s goals. UPSC Civil Services Exam (CSE) is held every year. More than thousands of aspirants sit for the competitive exam, but very few are able to crack it, let alone in their first attempt. Chandrajyoti Singh is an exception. She cracked the exam with All India Rank 28 on her very first attempt in 2019, that too without any coaching. Chandrajyoti’s parents have served in the Indian Army. She was inspired by her parents to serve the country since her childhood. The IAS officer’s father Dalbara Singh is a retired Colonel and her mother Lt Col Meena Singh is a retired army radiologist. Her parents were her backbone throughout her preparation phase for the exam.
Due to her parents being in the army, Chandrajyoti stayed in different cities throughout her schooling. She completed her 10th from APJ School, Jalandhar with a 10 CGPA and took her 12th board exam from Bhawan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh with 95.4 per cent. After completing her schooling, she moved to Delhi in 2015.

After completing her graduation, Chandrajyoti Singh took a break of 1 year and began preparing for the UPSC exam. She used to study current affairs and GK in the first half; and in the second half of her study time, she used to touch upon different other subjects. She used to study for 6-8 hours during the initial days. As the examination date came closer, she began studying for 10 hours. She completed the syllabus and also took a test series, which was part of her revision.
Chandrajyoti Singh did her officer training from August 2020 to October 2022 in Mussoorie. Then for four months, she was posted in the Ministry of External Affairs as Assistant Secretary. In October 2022, she joined the Government of Punjab as a Sub-Divisional Magistrate in Sultanpur Lodhi.
