Every year, lakhs of aspirants prepare for the civil services, with 10-15 lakh appearing for the UPSC Prelims. The UPSC Examination is conducted in three stages: Prelims, Mains, and Interview. Only after clearing the first two rounds do candidates appear for the interview.
The UPSC interviews for 2025 are being conducted between January 7 and April 17, 2025 at UPSC Office, Dholpur House, Delhi.
Those preparing for the interview must have comprehensive knowledge of current affairs, entertainment, sports, technology, etc. Candidates may be asked questions on any topic, from any corner of the country or the world.
These are a few commonly asked questions in the UPSC interview:
- Tell us briefly about yourself. (Further questions may be based on your introduction.)
- Tell us about your hometown. (You can mention famous places, food, clothing, etc., from your hometown.)
- What is the meaning of your name? (Questions may also be asked about your first name, surname, or anything related.)
- Tell us about your family. (You can mention the job or business of your parents or siblings if relevant.)
- What subjects have you studied, and do they have any relevance to becoming an IAS officer or in administration?
- What was your most or least favourite subject? (You may share an anecdote related to that subject from school or college.)
- Why did you study at this school or college? (You can mention any special connection or unique features of your school or college.)
- What kind of project did you work on during your school or college studies? (You can discuss any experience, from solo to group projects.)
- Were you an average student, or were you on the toppers’ list? (How would you define yourself as a student?)
- What are the main news stories of the day? (Stay updated on current affairs right up to the interview.)
- Has something important happened in India, your state, or hometown recently? (This will show your awareness of local matters.)
- If you have ever worked, what was your role, and in which department?
- Why do you want to join the civil services? Why do you want to become an IAS officer? (Be prepared to explain your motivation.)
- Why did you choose this optional subject? (Be ready to justify your choice.)
- Many questions may also be asked based on the information you provided in the DAF form.
