What are the key criteria that IIM Indore looks for before calling for the interview?

IIM Indore’s admission process is designed to ensure that we select candidates who are not only academically strong but also demonstrate leadership potential and a well-rounded personality. The key criteria for receiving an interview call include a strong academic track record, and competitive CAT score. It plays a pivotal role in the initial shortlisting process, though it is not the sole deciding factor. We also place significant weight on work experience, recognizing that practical exposure can enrich classroom discussions and bring valuable perspectives. Beyond academic and professional credentials, diversity is a key consideration, including gender and academic diversity, to ensure a dynamic and inclusive learning environment.

To actively support and encourage female participation at IIM Indore, we have introduced a ‘Diversity Factor’ in our MBA admission process, allocating 6 out of 100 points specifically for female candidates and non-engineering students in the composite score calculation. This initiative reflects our commitment to creating an inclusive environment.

Since the introduction of the Diversity Factor in 2015, IIM Indore has achieved a substantial increase in female representation in its Post Graduate Programme (PGP and PGPHRM). Over the past five years, female participants have averaged 37%, reflecting the institute’s commitment to a balanced and diverse learning environment. This initiative highlights IIM Indore’s dedication to enhancing gender inclusivity within management education, enriching the learning experience for all students.

Further, every participant, regardless of gender, is assigned a faculty mentor for the full duration of their studies, ensuring guidance and support in both academic and non-academic pursuits.

Additionally, we evaluate each applicant’s personal profile, looking for leadership potential, extracurricular achievements, and contributions to their communities, which provide a holistic view of the candidate’s capabilities and suitability for the programme.

What are some of the most common traits you look for in candidates during the interview process?

During the interview process, IIM Indore seeks candidates who demonstrate a range of qualities that go beyond academic excellence. We value leadership potential, as we believe that future business leaders must be capable of driving teams and projects with confidence and vision. Candidates who have taken initiative in various aspects of life, be it through their professional achievements, extracurricular activities, or personal growth, stand out in this regard. Problem-solving ability is another key trait, as business leaders are required to navigate complex and rapidly changing environments.

We look for candidates who can think critically, analyze situations from different angles, and propose well-thought-out solutions. Additionally, strong communication skills are crucial in our assessment, as the ability to articulate ideas clearly and confidently is essential in both academic settings and the professional world. What initiatives is IIM Indore undertaking to improve the quality of education and curriculum?

At IIM Indore, we are committed to continually improving the quality of education and keeping our curriculum in line with the evolving needs of the global business environment. One of the primary initiatives we undertake is regularly updating the curriculum to include emerging areas of business such as digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and sustainability. We also recognize the importance of interdisciplinary learning, and as such, we are introducing more cross-functional courses that provide students with a holistic understanding of business. Our emphasis on leadership development is another critical element of our curriculum, where we offer programmes focused on soft skills, emotional intelligence, and team-building. Two of our unique programmes include the Rural Engagement Programme and the Himalayan Outbound Programme. The Rural Engagement Programme (REP), which aims to immerse students in rural communities to understand their challenges and opportunities. Through REP, students spend a week in the village of Rural India in Madhya Pradesh, understand the challenges faced by the residents in that area, and then work on addressing pressing socio-economic issues. This hands-on experience not only enhances their understanding of rural dynamics but also develops a sense of social responsibility, encouraging them to apply their learning for the greater good.

Our faculty members continuously upskill to adapt to digital teaching methods and create engaging, interactive content that resonates with students. We offer more than 200 executive education courses, and these include long-term and short-term hybrid and online courses as well. While offering flexibility in terms of learning delivery, we emphasize the importance of engagement, encouraging students to participate in live discussions, group projects, and case studies, which are integral to the learning process. We are also mindful of the fact that some aspects of learning, such as peer interactions and networking, are better experienced in person, and we strive to balance both formats to provide a holistic educational experience. Personalized academic support is available to students through digital platforms, ensuring they continue to receive the attention and mentorship they need.
