The admission process for nursery schools in Delhi spans several months. Many parents deposit school fees once their child’s name appears in the first merit list. However, if their child is later selected in another school’s second list or if they need to withdraw admission due to other personal reasons, they often request a refund of the fees paid to the first school.
Unfortunately, many schools are reluctant to return the fees. To address this issue, the Delhi Education Department has established specific regulations.
The official notification for Delhi nursery school admissions for the 2025 session was uploaded on edudel.nic.in on November 25, 2024. Admission forms were released on November 28, 2024. The first merit list was published on January 17, 2025, followed by the second list on February 3, 2025 for the remaining students.
Clarifying The Refund Process
Fee refunds remain a major concern among parents during the admission process. Many parents, whose children were selected in the first list, completed admission formalities by verifying documents and paying fees at private schools in Delhi. According to media reports, some schools have demanded one month’s fee, while others require a full quarter’s fee. Some parents have complained that schools are insisting on fee payments in cash. This has led to widespread confusion regarding refund policies in Delhi.
As per the Delhi Education Department, if parents wish to withdraw their child’s admission within one month of paying the school fees, the school must refund the registration fee, one month’s admission fee, and tuition fee, excluding other charges.
Schools are required to process the refund within 30 days upon request. Failure to comply may result in action under the Delhi School Education Act and Rules (DSEAR).
For any queries regarding the second merit list, parents can contact schools between February 5 to 11. The nursery admission process will conclude on March 14, 2025.
