NDA Success Story: Imagine the pride if a son becomes an officer in the same army from where his father once retired as a Havildar. A similar story has recently emerged, where the son of a retired Havildar passed the NDA exam and will soon become an officer in the Indian Army after training.

This is the inspirational story of Imon Ghosh from Birbhum district in West Bengal. Imon secured All India Rank-1 in the NDA 2 2024 exam. He is currently studying at Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) and is a class 12 student.

Childhood Dream Of Wearing The Revered Uniform

Imon’s father, Ujjwal Kumar Ghosh, served as a Havildar in the Indian Army. Watching his father in uniform inspired Imon to dream of wearing one himself from a young age.

Initially, Imon aspired to join the Indian Air Force due to his fascination with fighter jets. His father has since retired from the army, and his mother Gargi Ghosh is a homemaker. Due to his father’s postings, Imon studied in various parts of the country, including Sainik School Kunjpura in Haryana, before joining RIMC Dehradun in Class 8. It was here that Imon began dreaming of becoming an army officer, feeling that his dream could become a reality.

Expectations And Results

When asked if he anticipated topping the NDA exam, Imon admitted he hoped to be in the top 10 but never imagined securing AIR-1. Upon sharing the news with his father, he couldn’t see his reaction on the phone but knew he must have cried with pride.

After his success, Imon credited RIMC for providing an environment that motivates students to excel. He began preparing for the NDA from class 11, where the strong foundation in Maths, English, GK, and Science made the written exam seem manageable.
