Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship & Minister of State, Ministry of Education Jayant Chaudhary launched a Centre of Excellence (CoE) – jointly set up by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU) – in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

Speaking at the launch, the Minister remarked, “Universities today serve not merely as centres of academic instruction, but as dynamic conduits linking the aspirations of young minds with the evolving needs of society and industry. By equipping students with both technical proficiency and foundational knowledge, these institutions cultivate critical thinking, innovation, and adaptability. Gujarat, in particular, has positioned itself at the forefront of this transformation—driving excellence in education, fostering robust industry-academia collaboration, and promoting holistic development. Through such efforts, our universities are shaping a generation that is not only professionally prepared but also socially conscious, creatively driven, and deeply committed to the nation’s progress.”

The Centre will be equipped with advanced manufacturing capabilities labs to provide specialised training. It will offer over 40 online and hybrid courses in sectors such as semiconductors manufacturing, renewable and non-renewables energy, digital edge, smart manufacturing, and more.

A Memorandum of Association (MoA) formalising this collaboration was signed earlier this month between NSDC and PDEU. The Centre will cater to students from ITI, Diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels, with a curriculum tailored to bridge the skills gap across Tier-1, Tier-2, and Tier-3 institutes. The focus will be on providing experiential learning in high-impact sectors such as energy, healthcare, water, and food systems.

Ved Mani Tiwari, CEO and MD of NSDC International, said, “At NSDC, our core objective is to enhance the employability of India’s youth through meaningful, future-ready skilling. This strategic collaboration represents a pivotal move towards building robust training infrastructure, particularly in advanced manufacturing, and establishing Centres of Excellence in priority sectors such as automotive, EV charging infrastructure, renewable energy, and semiconductors.”

“We have already commenced semiconductor-related training programmes that offer industry-aligned exposure, enabling learners to gain hands-on experience in high-growth sectors. These efforts reflect our commitment to delivering relevant and globally benchmarked skills. This CoE will serve as a hub for hands-on learning, R&D, and real-time industry engagement in semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, embedded systems, and VLSI design, directly addressing the talent needs of these sectors. It will act as a crucible for developing specialised skills aligned with the national priorities of sustainable development and energy security. Students will be trained to become Energy Ambassadors for the Nation.” he added.
