LUCKNOW: Government schools in Uttar Pradesh are shedding their traditional image. Under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, they are embracing a smart, tech-enabled, and participatory education model—once seen as the domain of private institutions. Spearheading this transformation is the state’s flagship ‘Kayakalp Yojana,’ which is driving both technological and infrastructural upgrades.
In recent years, the Basic Education Department of Uttar Pradesh has signed over 40 non-financial MoUs with various non-governmental organizations. These partnerships aim to provide technological support, teacher training, digital resources, and promote community engagement. Reputed institutions like IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Kanpur, Khan Academy, HCL Foundation, Sampark Foundation, Bharti Foundation (Airtel), and Pratham Foundation have joined this effort — offering not only facilities, but also helping restore public confidence in government education.
The ‘Nav Bharat Uday’ program, initiated in collaboration with Dalmia Bharat Group and Seekho Sikhao Foundation, is actively equipping government schools with digital TVs. During its launch, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath referred to it as the beginning of a “digital revolution.”
Notably, between 2022 and 2024, 539 schools in Sitapur district alone were covered under this initiative, with 59 smart TVs and 5 computer labs installed. This year, 64 schools across 13 districts are focusing on competency-based learning, teacher cluster meetings, and community participation to further improve the quality of education.
Along with technological innovation, the Kayakalp Yojana has given a new identity to the physical infrastructure of government schools. Rapid development has taken place in essential areas such as school buildings, classrooms, toilets, clean drinking water, and electricity. As technology and training become integrated with these improved infrastructures, government schools are evolving from being just an option to becoming a preferred choice.
The Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model adopted by the Yogi government has a clear objective — “to provide quality, inclusive, and technology-enabled education to every child.” Joint efforts between government and private sectors have not only enhanced teacher training but also expanded available resources and boosted community involvement. This has fostered a sense of confidence that is modernizing and making the public education system more responsive and accountable.
“Government schools in Uttar Pradesh are now emerging as centers of technological innovation and quality education. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, our government has prioritized Public-Private Partnerships, which have strengthened the education system. Through digital resources, smart classrooms, and community involvement, we are committed to delivering inclusive, modern, and impactful education to every child. This is not just a transformation, but the beginning of a new educational revolution,” said Sandeep Singh, Basic Education Minister, Uttar Pradesh.
“Technological collaboration and community participation are laying a strong foundation for quality education in government schools. Our goal is to ensure that every child receives modern and impactful learning,” said Kanchan Verma, Director General, School Education, Uttar Pradesh.
