Karnataka SSLC Exam-1 results declared; 62% students pass, 22 candidates score full marks

Twenty-two students scored full marks (625/625), of which two students are from government schools. Last year, only one student scored full marks.

In terms of numbers, of the 8.4 lakh students who appeared in the exam, about 5.2 lakh students passed. Among those who passed the exam, 75 per cent of students secured first class by getting more than 60 per cent marks.

Girls outperformed boys in terms of pass percentage. Girls secured a pass percentage of 74 per cent, whereas boys notched up a pass percentage of 58 per cent. Students in urban areas performed slightly better (67 per cent pass percentage), compared to their peers in rural areas (65 per cent). Meanwhile, government schools recorded a pass percentage of 62 per cent, aided schools (58 per cent), and unaided schools (75 per cent).

Apart from the 22 students who got full marks, 65 students scored 624, 108 students scored 623, and 327 students scored 620. Six government schools, 30 aided schools, and 108 unaided schools secured zero per cent results, which means no students from those institutes could secure pass marks. Meanwhile, 329 government schools, 53 aided schools, and 539 unaided schools notched up a 100 per cent success rate.

District-wise, Dakshina Kannada topped the list with a pass percentage of 91 per cent. It was closely followed by Udupi with a pass percentage of 89 per cent. Bengaluru North and South secured a pass percentage of 72 per cent, while Bengaluru Rural secured 74 per cent. The pass percentage in Kalyan Karnataka districts like Bidar, Raichur, Yadgir, and Kalaburgi hovered around 50 per cent.

The school education minister also said, “The chief minister directed us to emphasise more on classroom-based learning activities to improve the results. Therefore, we adopted academic interventions such as remedial classes and other classroom learning programs. With the help of the CEOs of the Zilla Panchayats across the state, we identified students who need to improve and ensured… targeted approaches. We also ensured that 80 per cent of the syllabus is completed by the first week of January, so that students have enough time for preparations for the board exam.”

He further noted that approximately 13,000 students, who were just shy of securing the pass marks, received grace marks in line with existing norms.

Bangarappa also encouraged students to take the SSLC Exam-2 and SSLC Exam-3 to improve their results. KSEAB has also waived off the exam fee for SSLC Exam-2 for regular students who have been unsuccessful in SSLC Exam-1. However, candidates who want to take the retests to improve their results will have to pay the exam fee.
