Schools Colleges Closed Live News Updates: Some private schools in Delhi also took the decision to go online on Friday as a precautionary measure in light of the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, following Operation Sindoor, conducted on Wednesday as a response to the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22. Authorities have ordered the closure of educational institutions in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan and Ladakh.
Several schools in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir have switched to online mode of classes to ensure students do not miss out academic time, news agency PTI reported. The decision in J-K comes after the state government on Thursday ordered the closure of all schools, colleges and universities in the Union Territory till Saturday as a precautionary measure. CM Omar Abdullah said he will review the decision to close schools on Monday. The Leh administration on Friday announced that all schools will remain closed in the district for the same duration.
On the other hand, government and private schools in Rajasthan have been closed in Sri Ganganagar, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and Barmer districts. In addition to schools, all colleges in Jodhpur were also ordered to remain shut. With high alert sounded in the border districts of western Rajasthan, a blackout was instituted in these areas from midnight to 4 am due to possible threat of air strikes.
Punjab government has ordered the closure of all educational institutions for the next three days in view of the escalating tensions at India-Pakistan border. On Thursday evening, officials in the Tricity region (Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula) announced also that all schools will remain closed on Friday and Saturday. Panjab University in Chandigarh postponed exams scheduled for May 9, 10 and 12. The new dates will be announced later, the university said. In Haryana, all educational institutions in Panchkula will remain closed on Friday and Saturday, according to officials.
On Wednesday, following the Operation Sindoor, educational institutes in several border districts along the national border in Jammu, Punjab and Rajasthan remained closed. Pakistan responded with indiscriminate shelling in border districts of J-K, including Poonch and Uri, claiming the lives of at least 14 people on the Indian side. In the early hours of Friday, India thwarted a Pakistani drone and missile assault targeting 15 military bases and several cities.
