IIM Sambalpur, in collaboration with NTA, has introduced Bachelor of Science in Management and Public Policy and Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence

These programmes aim to offer a robust foundation in data analysis, critical reasoning, and evidence-based decision-making, IIM Sambalpur said

In alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, IIM Sambalpur, in collaboration with National Testing Agency (NTA), has introduced two innovative undergraduate programmes — Bachelor of Science in Management and Public Policy and Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.

These programmes aim to provide a solid foundation in data analysis, critical thinking, and evidence-based decision-making, the IIM announced in a press release. The interdisciplinary courses are designed to cultivate responsible leaders who can tackle complex societal and industrial challenges with creativity, compassion, and a global outlook.

The Bachelor of Science in Management and Public Policy programme aims to fulfill national managerial goals related to Sustainability, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), and community-led development. It intends to equip a new generation of change-makers to effectively connect policy with practice at the grassroots level.

The Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence aims to boost India’s digital capabilities and global competitiveness. The programme develops future-ready skills in young students and advocates the use of ethical AI, highlighting the institution’s dedication to innovation with integrity.

The undergraduate programmes have a flexible structure, allowing students to earn a certificate after one year, a diploma after two years, a degree after three years, and an honors degree after four years, with multiple entry and exit points, Prof Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director of IIM Sambalpur said.

The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, will admit students through an entrance test conducted by NTA. Applicants must have at least 70 per cent marks in their 10th and 12th board exams, along with top percentile or high marks in the JEE (Main) test. There are 90 seats in this programme.

“The second programme, the first of its kind in India, is the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Management and Public Policy. It is designed for those aspiring to enter the bureaucracy or the Indian Administrative Services (IAS). Currently, there is no undergraduate program in India specifically preparing individuals for such careers. We believe the best minds targeting civil services should receive foundation-level training through a formal B.Sc. programme,” Jaiswal said.

Addressing the event, Chief Guest Bramhanand Jha said, “India’s Global Capability Centres (GCCs) are evolving from low-cost arbitrage centers to strategic innovation hubs for global business value. As the economy shifts towards a digital-first approach, GCCs are leading in creating agile, technology-enabled, and future-proof organizations. Institutions like IIM Sambalpur, with vision-oriented programs in Data Science, AI, and Public Policy, are shaping the talent and mindset to drive this change. At MeitY, we are committed to fostering an ecosystem where academia, industry, and governance collaborate to promote sustainable innovation, transformation, and digital leadership.”
