In JEE Mains 2025, Om Prakash Behera of Bhubaneswar, Odisha, received a flawless score and was ranked first overall.
In the January session, his score was 300/300.
It is not an easy feat to achieve full marks in JEE Main, but Om Prakash Behera of Odisha has done it. He scored a perfect 300/300 in the January JEE Main 2025 session, achieving an NTA of 100 percentile. He claims that his dedicated self-study, methodical approach and strategic planning enabled him to ace one of the most difficult exams in India.
One thing, though, was noteworthy: he did more than simply avoid social media. Om Prakash has no phone.
The majority of the younger generation now considers smartphones to be an extension of themselves. However, to prevent distractions, Om Prakash deliberately chose not to have a phone. He was focused on his studies.
Who is Om Prakash Behera?
Om Prakash was born on January 12, 2008 and comes from a family with a high level of education. His mother, Smita Rani Behera, is a college lecturer, while his father, Kamlakant Behera, is employed with the Odisha Administrative Services. His mother showed unflinching support by moving to Kota and supporting his preparatory journey during a three-year hiatus from her job.
Om Prakash joined Allen Career Institute in Kota and started attending classes regularly after achieving a 92 per cent on his Class 10 examinations. He underlined how his preparation was shaped by Kota’s intensely competitive environment, Allen’s faculty and study materials.
In addition to rigorous test analysis and error repair, he spent eight to nine hours each day studying on his own.
Know Om Prakash Behera’s JEE preparation strategy
A significant portion of his routine involved self-study. “I do self-study for about 8 to 9 hours daily,” he told India Today. He was able to learn JEE concepts because of this methodical approach and organised teaching.
Om Prakash becomes better by taking note of his errors. “The graph of marks keeps fluctuating in weekly tests, but I tried to give my best. After every test, I used to do self-analysis and see which mistakes were responsible for getting fewer marks. In the next test, I would try not to repeat those mistakes,” he claimed.
The JEE topper stayed true to the fundamentals when it came to study materials. “For JEE Main, I mainly focused on the NCERT syllabus,” he told the publication.
Another important factor was adhering to his coaching institute’s advice. “I am following the guidelines of teachers because Allen’s teachers and study material are perfect and the faculty here has a lot of experience in these exams,” the Allen Career Institute student said, as quoted by India Today.
Om Prakash manages to make time for his other hobbies despite his rigorous academic emphasis. Amid his demanding study routine, he probably finds solace in reading novels.
Om Prakash views achieving a flawless score of 300 in JEE Main as merely a first step towards a more ambitious goal. His current focus is on JEE Advanced, which serves as a route to IITs.
