The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has written to the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) urging to conduct the NEET PG 2025 examination in a single shift NEET PG 2025 is scheduled to be held on June 15, and the results are expected to be declared on July 15. NBEMS will conduct NEET PG 2025 in a computer-based mode in two shifts across the country.

Many candidates have raised concerns about the continued use of the two-shift exam format. They are calling for a return to the traditional single-shift model, citing worries about uneven question paper difficulty and the fairness of the score normalisation process.

“We are writing to express our deep concern regarding the proposed plan to conduct the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2025 in two shifts instead of a single shift. As you know, NEET PG is one of the most crucial examinations for medical graduates, determining their career prospects and specialization opportunities. Therefore, maintaining the sanctity and fairness of the examination process is of utmost importance,” FAIMA wrote in the letter.

Highlighting the issues around the conduct of NEET PG 2025 in multiple shifts, FAIMA raised concerns over the process of normalization of marks, differences in difficulty levels of papers

“Different question papers in different shifts inherently introduce variations in difficulty levels, making it challenging to establish a truly fair normalization process. This can lead to undue advantages or disadvantages for candidates based on their assigned shift, compromising the examination results’ credibility,” stated the Doctors Association.

FAIMA further added, “A single-shift examination ensures uniformity in difficulty level, eliminates the need for normalization, and upholds the transparency and fairness of the selection process. Conducting the exam in multiple shifts could also lead to legal challenges and unnecessary disputes, ultimately delaying the admission process and causing distress among aspirants.”

NEET PG was held in two shifts for the first time last year on August 11. The first shift ran from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM, and the second from 3:30 PM to 7:00 PM. A petition filed by the United Doctors’ Front, challenging the two-shift format of NEET PG 2025 is currently before the Supreme Court. It highlights concerns about differences in question paper difficulty and questions the opacity of the score normalisation process, calling for a more equitable and transparent evaluation system.
