The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi is set to introduce a new BTech in Design program in the 2025–26 academic session. This four-year undergraduate course, offered by the Department of Design, aims to blend technical education with design thinking to equip students to tackle complex socio-technical challenges. The initial intake will be limited to 20 students.
The programme will consist of 155 credits in total. The course will focus on product design subjects, along with content from other BTech departments, centres, and schools within the institute. “B.Tech. (Design)programme at IIT Delhi will have strong product design focus. However, in today’s fast changing world design of products in isolation has limited meaning and is often accompanied by design of environments, communications, systems and services,” reads the official notice by IIT-Delhi.
“B.Tech in Design is a very unique programme crafted specially for empathetic and creative minds intent on understanding socio-technical systems around us and designing interventions for problems in these systems,” the notice added.
The application process will be conducted online via IIT Delhi’s official admissions portal. Interested candidates must register, provide their details, and indicate their preference for the BTech in Design programme. Key dates for application submission, counselling, and seat allotment will be published on the institute’s website in due course of time.
Eligibility Criteria
Admission to the programme requires candidates to clear both the JEE Advanced and the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED). Only those who qualify in both exams will be considered, with shortlisting based on their combined performance in these national-level entrance tests.
Applicants must have completed their Class 12 or equivalent examination in either 2024 or 2025, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as required subjects. For UCEED eligibility, candidates must be born on or after 1 October 2000. A five-year age relaxation is available for candidates from Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) categories, following the respective entrance examination rules.
