Are Freelancers Happier? :)

In recent years, a significant number of individuals have chosen to transition from a 9-to-5 job to freelancing. The allure of this occupation lies in the empowerment it provides, particularly in the freedom to choose the projects they work on. Many argue that they can work from any location and at their preferred time, a level of control that is often missing in traditional employment.

Given these reasons, those aspiring to be freelancers should ask whether current freelancers are happier than those in their previous employment.

Yes, but there are stipulations that freelancers should never forget.

The Job Opportunities Are Immense

It is a common belief for many that having a full-time job will be a more stable career compared to freelancing and other part-time pursuits. One does not need to worry about finding a position each time you finish a task. So long as you do your work, there is no need to shift careers once you are on a full-time job.

While freelancing is not certain, freelancers thrive because of the immense job opportunities. Many freelancers nowadays argue that they are more optimistic about their future jobs than when freelancing was not considered a large industry. Many industries are popping up to serve a specific demographic or niche and need freelancers who can help them fill these positions without worrying about operational costs or relocation.

However, freelancers can also argue that finding the right job opportunity is stressful, given the high competition and the niches available. A freelancer must identify their niches early on to know which market to go to in order to find the positions they need.

Pay Increases = Happy Freelancers

Aside from the numerous opportunities available for freelancers, even shortly, freelancers are happier with the idea that their pay will continue to grow. If they stay in their previous jobs, they will have a set salary that they cannot increase easily. As freelancers, they can negotiate for their pay and even work more to increase their monthly pay. Some even argue that they expect to have a larger income in each coming year despite the talk of some industries cutting back on costs in favour of automation and AI.

However, there is also the argument that freelancers may become anxious about the pay. Depending on their niche, some freelancers will have to do more than one task to reach their target income.

Job Satisfaction and Work-Life Balance is Possible

With the abundance of job opportunities, a positive outlook for the future, and the potential for high pay, freelancers can achieve a satisfying work-life balance. Many attribute this to their ability to control how they work and the time they dedicate to their personal well-being. This support system and the freedom to build strong relationships can provide a sense of reassurance and support to freelancers.

However, there is also the argument that a freelancer must be able to plan how their freelancing stint should be operated to achieve job satisfaction and work-life balance. They need to follow a specific process to find the opportunities they want and make sure that the extra time and freedom freelancing provides won’t distract their work. If not done correctly, it can become a very draining experience.

Government Has Them Covered

With the growth of freelancers, governments are now taking notice and providing these workers with the support they need to succeed in the industry. This support includes healthcare, child support, maternity leave, and many others. Freelancers who sign up with the government are very happy with these protections because they know they don’t have to worry too much about it.

But, there is a note that not all governments can provide this support. Sometimes, this support is not as concise as people would prefer. This would cost freelancers a lot of money and time to find alternatives.

Freelancing will be here to stay and is unlikely to lull in its progress or growth soon. Younger workers are even freelancing before trying a traditional job because of its benefits. Freelancing can make people happy if they find their perfect task. But remember, it is not for everyone, so continually assess your situation to see if it fits you before going for it.
