Ahead of G-20, AIIMS-Rishikesh to organise youth summit – Times of India

DEHRADUN: AIIMS-Rishikesh will organise the ‘Youth-20 summit’ on May 4 and 5, ahead of this year’s G-20 summit, for which the curtain raiser was inaugurated on Thursday.
AIIMS-Rishikesh is one of the three medical colleges in the country which have been selected for this summit. The main objective is to prepare the country’s youth for G-20 summit and make them an engagement group. Y-20 is the official youth engagement group for G-20. It brings together young leaders from across the globe to discuss and debate global challenges and encourages youth as future leaders to raise awareness on global issues, exchange ideas, argue, negotiate and reach consensus.
The activities to be undertaken by Y-20 will focus on global youth leadership and partnership. Y-20 India will act as a platform for dialogue and negotiations among young leaders in India and around the world, who will come together to address the challenges facing our generation and strive to make a positive impact on the world.
During the curtain raiser, executive director AIIMS, professor Meenu Singh, said that the summit aims to prepare our youth for global challenges and to increase their capacity for active participation, in order to shape their future in a better way.
“Y-20 will be organised in Rishikesh on May 4 and 5. Youth will be prepared to spread awareness about the G-20 summit and discuss global current issues,” said Singh.
Professor Jaya Chaturvedi, dean of academics, expressed hope that the programme will be successful and will provide a new direction to the youth. Organisers said that AIIMS will organise various programmes under the Y-20 event, which will continue over the next few days.
