Bharati Pravin Pawar, Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, stated in the Lok Sabha today that there is no plan to hold the NEET UG twice a year. Now, the National Testing Agency conducts the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (UG) once a year as a prerequisite/entrance examination for medical programs in India (NTA).
The minister was responding to a query from MP Ramesh Chand Bind, who asked whether the government intended to hold the NEET UG exam on the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main format to give candidates two chances in a year, “to spare NEET aspirants from stress and depression in cracking the difficult competition in a single attempt only or lose one precious year.”
Also, Bind inquired as to whether a committee had been established and from which session the government will begin holding the exam twice. Further, he inquired as to whether and from which session the government intended to hold a single exam.
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) must be conducted as a common/uniform entrance test for admission to the undergraduate and postgraduate courses in all medical institutions across the nation, according to Section 14 of the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act, 2019 (the law that established the national medical commission).
NEET represents a significant change that promotes the principle of merit-based selection and enables deserving students to gain admission to the top medical colleges in the nation. The results, in Pawar’s opinion, are increased openness, a lighter preparation load for numerous entry exams, and an end to medical admission misbehavior.
