MUMBAI: Maharashtra will accord its approval to set up Telugu and Bengali sahitya akademi, literary bodies, in the state for promotion of both the leading languages of the country.
Replying to supplementary demands on the state budget Sudhri Mungantiwar, cultural affairs minister said the similar bodies for Hindi and Sindhi languages already exist in Maharashtra as several proposals for such akademis were pending with the state.
Meanwhile, tourism minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha said the Kanheri caves and Vajreshwari temple will be accorded the tourism tag by the government. The status would eventually facilitate better funds and management of the locations as part of tourism promotion plans.
Vajreshwari goddess temple is near Vasai where Chimaji Appa, the younger brother and military commander of first Bajirao peshwa had camped during his military campaign against the Portuguese. Kanheri caves are a rock-cut buddhist sculptures in Sanjay Gandhi National Park dating from the 1st century CE to the 10th century CE. Kanheri comes from the Sanskrit Krishnagiri, which means black mountain.
