Thomas Burns, a former provost of Belmont University, in Tennessee, has been named president of York College of Pennsylvania. He will succeed Pamela Gunter-Smith, who will retire in June.
Xavier A. Cole, vice president for student affairs at Marquette University, in Wisconsin, has been named president of Loyola University New Orleans.
Dondi E. Costin, president of Charleston Southern University and a retired U.S. Army major general, has been named president of Liberty University. He replaces Jerry Prevo, who became interim president after Jerry Falwell Jr.’s resignation.
Colleen Derr, president of Wesley Seminary, in Indiana, has been named president of Eastern Nazarene College, in Massachusetts.
Joseph J. Foy, interim president and vice president for academic affairs at Alverno College, in Wisconsin, has been named president of Benedictine University, in Illinois.
Joan T.A. Gabel, president of the University of Minnesota, has been named chancellor of the University of Pittsburgh. She will succeed Patrick Gallagher, who is stepping down this summer.
Aubra Gantt, vice president for academic outreach and student success at the Tarrant County College Connect Campus in Fort Worth, has been named chancellor of the Shreveport campus of Southern University.
Lori Stewart Gonzalez, executive vice president and provost and former interim president of the University of Louisville, in Kentucky, has been named president of Ohio University.
Eric Hogue, vice president for university advancement at Colorado Christian University, has been named president of the university.
C. Shane Reese, academic vice president at Brigham Young University, has been named president. He succeeds Kevin J. Worthen.
Susana Rivera-Mills, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Ball State University, in Indiana, has been named president of Aurora University, in Illinois.
Anita Thomas, executive vice president and provost at St. Catherine University, in Minnesota, has been named president of North Central College, in Illinois. She is the first woman and first person of color to lead the college.
Resignations
Katherine Bergeron, president of Connecticut College since 2013, will step down following campus protests and a faculty vote of no confidence.
J. Timothy Cloyd, president of Drury University, in Missouri, will resign because of “family health concerns.”
Suzanne Keen has resigned as president of Scripps College, in California. She began her term on July 1, 2022.
Steve Pettit, president of Bob Jones University, in South Carolina, plans to resign at the end of the academic year.
Retirements
Ronald L. Vaughn, president since 1995 of the University of Tampa, in Florida, plans to retire in May 2024.

Alec Gallimore, dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan, has been named provost and chief academic officer at Duke University.
Audrey Kelleher, vice president for adult, graduate, and online studies at Bellhaven University, has been named provost and vice president for academic affiars.
John Pelesko, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Delaware, has been named provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

DEATHS
Hazard Adams, founding chair of the department of English and comparative literature at the University of California at Irvine, died on February 24. He was 97. Adams also served as dean of humanities and vice chancellor for academic affairs at Irvine, before leaving for the University of Washington.
Vladimir G. Marinich, one of the original professors of Howard Community College when it opened in 1970 in Columbia, Md., died on March 2. He was 86.
William A. Wulf, a professor emeritus of computer science at the University of Virginia, died on March 10. He was 83.
