Hemant began Civil Services preparation in 2020, shortly after earning his Masters degree. Initially, he focused on UPSC and took the exam four times.

Hemant is currently working as an SDM in Mirzapur.

The final results for the UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2024 were announced on April 22. Among them, Shakti Dubey has topped by getting and AIR 1, while Harshita Goyal was at the second position and Hemant Mishra of Bihar has secured 13th rank. The latter presently works as an SDM in Mirzapur. While holding this distinguished position, he prepared for the UPSC and set a new benchmark for achievement. His success story serves as an inspiration to many UPSC aspirants.

Recently, during an interview with Indian Masterminds, Hemant talked about his successful journey and also offered valuable tips for those preparing for the examination.

Hemant began Civil Services preparation in 2020, shortly after earning his Master’s degree. Initially, he focused on UPSC and took the exam four times. After failing his CSE-2021 attempt, he chose to pursue state civil service examinations as well.

He also failed to pass the preliminary exams on his second and third UPSC attempts in 2022 and 2023, respectively. However, on his fourth attempt at UPSC CSE 2024, he finally tasted success, achieving a remarkable All India Rank (AIR) of 13. He will soon become an IAS Officer.

During his preparation for the UPSC CSE, he also appeared in several state civil services examinations. In his first attempt at the UPPCS-2022, he successfully cleared the exam and was appointed Deputy SP with an overall rank of 47, placing 8th on the DySP list. He continued to thrive in the UPPCS-2023, finishing ninth and emerging as one of the top performers. This got him a position as a trainee SDM in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, and he is currently pursuing Phase II SDM training in Lucknow.

Not just this, Hemant had also cleared the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exam twice, including the 68th BPSC exam.

Preparation:

Hemant, during the interaction, revealed that he never joined any coaching institutes and relied only on self-study while pursuing his PhD in New Delhi. After clearing the UPPCS-2023 examination, he continued his preparations for the UPSC CSE to become an IAS Officer.

Sharing some tips for those trying to clear the UPSC CSE exams, he shared, “Learning from mistakes is important. If you want to crack UPSC, you should only use UPSC-focused study materials. Previous Year Questions (PYQs) are the best for learning, and focussing on them is crucial.”

Hemant did not take any special notes for the preliminary exams and kept his resources to a minimum. He concentrated on General Studies and Current Affairs at Lucent and ‘Ghatna Chakra’. For the Mains, he wrote brief notes for all papers based on the syllabus, making sure that his resources were minimal yet effective.
