The All India Bar Examination (AIBE), approved by the Bar Council of India (BCI) on April 30, 2010, is a mandatory test for law graduates from the 2009-2010 academic year onwards. Graduates must enrol as advocates under Section 24 of the Advocates Act, 1961, before appearing for the exam.
Aimed at improving the standard of the legal profession, the AIBE is crucial for those who wish to practice law in India. The exam is conducted twice a year across 50 cities in India and is an open-book test that assesses basic legal knowledge and analytical skills.
Upon passing, candidates receive a Certificate of Practice, allowing them to practice law in any Indian court. The exam consists of multiple-choice questions and lasts for three and a half hours.
