Lucknow: Three days after he was removed by the governor Anandiben Patel, the vice-chancellor of APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University Prof PK Mishra tendered his resignation to Patel, also the Chancellor of state universities, on Tuesday.
Though Raj Bhawan did not issue any official communique on the development, Prof Mishra, when contacted by TOI, confirmed that he tendered his resignation on Tuesday evening, and the same has been accepted.
Speaking to TOI, Prof Mishra said, “I have resigned on personal grounds. My resignation has also been accepted. I am deeply indebted to Lucknow for the lessons I learnt here. It helped me improve my personality. I thank Lucknow for the love it showered on me.”
A PhD in chemical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, Prof Mishra was appointed AKTU VC on January 5, 2022. Earlier, he served as VC of Jharkhand University of Technology, Ranchi.
Prof Mishra was removed and attached to Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University on February 4 this year. The Chancellor’s decision to remove Prof Mishra was to remain effective till the inquiry ordered against him by Patel was over.
The governor had on January 30 appointed a retired high court judge, Justice SN Agnihotri to probe into the charges of corruption in AKTU during Prof Mishra’s term.
The charges were levelled by the former controller of examination (CoE) of the university, Anurag Tripathi, in retaliation after he was removed by Prof Mishra in December last year on grounds that he did not fulfill the eligibility.
Tripathi was appointed as CoE by Prof Vinay Kumar Pathak during his term as VC of AKTU. Prof Pathak’s term ended in January 2022. Prof Mishra was removed after he constituted a four-member committee headed by a retired high court judge, Justice Pramod Kumar Srivastava, to probe corruption charges during Prof Pathak’s term.
Prof Mishra ordered the probe on the direction of the University Grants Commission and the Prime Minister’s office.
Prof Pathak, who is also facing a CBI probe on corruption charges, is still serving as the VC of Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur.
