ALIGARH :  Prof. Nafees Ahmad Khan, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences and former Chairperson, Department of Botany, Aligarh Muslim University, has been declared an Elected Fellow of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS), a prestigious body which recognizes researchers who excel in their respective fields.

Prof. Khan has identified the hormonal and nutritional regulation mechanism for optimizing the photosynthetic machinery, plant growth and development, using ionomics and metabolomics for sustainable agriculture.

He has held that the adverse effects of abiotic stress factors could be reduced through the optimization of photosynthetic machinery by maximising the nutrient-use-efficiency through judicious synergism with signaling molecules like ethylene, nitric oxide, abscisic acid, and hydrogen sulphide for the maximum nutrient-use-efficiency. His research presents solutions to create abiotic stress-resistant plants and improve food security in the country.

Prof. Khan has earlier been selected as a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences (FNASc.), a Fellow of the Indian Botanical Science (FIBS), and a fellow of the Indian Society of Plant Physiology (FISPP). He has over 200 research publications with an H-index of 79.

He has figured in the Thomson Reuters /Clarivate Analytics’ Highly Cited Researchers list, 2019-2023.
