All examinations of Class 11 of the Assam state board from March 24 to 29, comprising 36 subjects, have been cancelled following reports of several paper leaks at different places, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said.

Earlier, the Higher Secondary first-year Mathematics exam scheduled for March 21 by the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) was leaked, leading authorities to cancel the exams and file a police complaint.

The Class 11 examinations, which began on March 6, were initially set to continue until March 29.

“Due to question paper leaks and breaches of protocol, the remaining HS First Year exams scheduled from March 24-29 are cancelled,” Pegu stated on the microblogging site X.

He shared the official order from ASSEB, indicating that a new exam schedule will be determined in a board meeting on Monday.

In another post, the minister highlighted that the Mathematics paper leak occurred after 18 schools, including three government institutes, breached the security seal a day before the exam.

“ASSEB has suspended the affiliation of 15 private schools across 10 districts for breaking the seal of Class 11 Mathematics question papers early, causing the leak.

“The state government will also take action against three other schools for similar violations,” he added.

Police complaints will be filed, and these schools are prohibited from admitting Class 11 students for the 2025-26 academic year, Pegu stated.

According to the ASSEB order issued by Controller of Examinations (in-charge) Ranjan Kumar Das, all inspectors of schools and principals of lead colleges have returned the sealed Mathematics question paper packets following the cancellation.

“The reports indicate that some institutions had opened the sealed question paper packets on 20/03/2025, despite the exam being scheduled for the second session of 21/03/2025.

“There is a possibility that question papers for the remaining exams could also be leaked, as they are held in the custody of each institution where exams are conducted,” the order noted.

Consequently, all remaining Class 11 exams from March 24 to March 29 are cancelled, Das confirmed in the order.

Das told PTI that an FIR has been filed at CID Headquarters in Guwahati, and 18 additional cases will be lodged at respective police stations against the implicated institutions.

“Among the 18 centres, we suspect that only one or two may have leaked the papers, which then went viral on social media. The culprits will be identified following a detailed police investigation,” he added.

Last week, the Class 9 English annual exam in Assam’s Barpeta district was cancelled after the question paper leaked on social media.
