On the first attempt, he fell short of the final selection by 6 marks.
After completing his B.Tech degree, he confided in his father about his plan to start preparing for the UPSC and moved from Ghaziabad to Delhi.
The inspiring success story of IAS officer Lakshay Singhal is nothing short of a testament to determination and hard work. And guess what? Even his parents, at one point, had doubts, but he ultimately proved that with hard work and determination, anything is achievable.
According to reports, Lakshay was considered an average student during his early academic years. His family never envisioned him becoming an IAS officer. He only began taking his studies seriously in Class 9, managing to secure good grades in the Class 10 board exams. This accomplishment instilled faith in his parents’ hearts. It also made him realise that if he wanted to maintain that faith and earn respect in society, he needed to accomplish something significant.
Lakshay’s inspiration to pursue the IAS came from witnessing a boy in his neighbourhood successfully clear the exam. The respect and recognition the boy received everywhere made Lakshay realise that he too wanted to achieve something similar. Unfortunately, Lakshay faced challenges in his Class 11 and 12. Initially, he aspired to become an engineer, but when he couldn’t crack any entrance exams, his parents lost faith in him.
At his father’s advice, Lakshay then opted to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He chose this field intending to contribute to the family business. After completing his B.Tech degree, he confided in his father about his plan to start preparing for the UPSC. Although his family had little faith left, they supported his decision to give it a try. So, he moved from Ghaziabad to Delhi to start his civil services preparations, enrolling in coaching classes.
For a year, Lakshay dedicated himself to his preparations. On his first attempt, he went to the interview round but fell short of the final selection by 6 marks. Learning from his mistakes, he decided to prepare on his own for his second attempt. Lakshya used to study for 10-12 hours in the beginning. But gradually, he reduced it to six to eight hours. In 2018, he successfully cracked the UPSC exam, securing the 38th rank in the country.
