In an inspiring tale of resilience and determination, a young student from Bengaluru has defied the odds by scoring an impressive 92 per cent in his Class 10 examinations, despite battling cancer.
Chirantan Honnapura, a student of Aryan Presidency School in Nagarbhavi, Bengaluru, has set a remarkable example of perseverance by excelling academically while undergoing treatment for a severe medical condition.
Chirantan was diagnosed with high-grade osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer common among teenagers, when he was in Class 9.
Even amid his illness, he remained determined to continue his studies. After undergoing surgery to remove the bone in his right hand, he took his Class 9 examinations with the help of an assistant writer and scored 82 per cent.
As he progressed to class 10, Chirantan faced the additional challenge of undergoing chemotherapy, which kept him away from school for over three months. Despite these setbacks, he remained focused on his goal.
Chirantan utilised live classes on social media and the guidance of his teachers, diligently studying without the aid of private tuition. “My method was that I used to study carefully in classes and write the answers in my own words. My friends never let me feel different. They always supported me,” Chirantan said.
Chirantan’s friends and teachers provided unwavering support, ensuring he never felt isolated during his treatment. His determination paid off when he scored an admirable 92 per cent in his ICSE class 10 examinations.
Looking ahead, Chirantan plans to pursue a commerce stream in his pre-university studies. He dreams of studying law and ultimately becoming an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer through the UPSC exam. From a young age, Chirantan has aspired to join the IPS, hoping to bring positive change to society.
