Not every student wants to follow a purely academic path after completing Class 12—especially those from the Arts stream. If you’re more inclined towards practical skills, creativity, and hands-on learning, there are plenty of exciting career options waiting for you. Here’s a look at five popular non-academic courses that Arts students can pursue right after Class 12.
Event Management
If you’re good at planning and enjoy organising things, event management could be a perfect fit. This course teaches you how to plan, coordinate, and execute events like weddings, concerts, corporate meetings, and exhibitions. It focuses on real-world skills like budgeting, logistics, client handling, and creativity. Career options include event planner, wedding coordinator, or production manager.
Hotel Management
Hotel management is a great option for those interested in hospitality and service. The course covers areas such as front office operations, food and beverage service, housekeeping, and customer relations. It’s ideal for students who enjoy working with people and want a dynamic work environment. Graduates can work in hotels, resorts, and airlines, or even start their own hospitality ventures.
Students planning to pursue Hotel Management courses can aim for NCHM JEE (National Council for Hotel Management Joint Entrance Examination) for admission to the BSc (Hospitality & Hotel Administration) course at the Institutes of Hotel Management (IHM) affiliated with the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHM&CT) across the country.
Interior Designing
Do you have an eye for design and love decorating spaces? Interior designing might be your calling. This course helps you understand space planning, color theory, furniture design, and materials. You’ll also learn to use design software to create layouts. Interior designers are in high demand for homes, offices, retail stores, and more.
Beauty and Wellness
This industry is booming, and skilled professionals are always in demand. Courses in beauty and wellness train you in skincare, hair care, makeup, spa treatments, and personal grooming. You can work in salons, wellness centres, or start your own beauty business. It’s a great career for those passionate about helping others look and feel their best.
Graphic Design
If you’re creative and love working on a computer, graphic design is a strong option. This course focuses on visual communication, digital tools, typography, branding, and layout design. Graphic designers find work in advertising, social media, publishing, and freelance projects.
Candidates who wish to pursue Bachelor of Design (BDes) programmes from premier institutes like IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Indore and IIT Roorkee may aim for UCEED (Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design). Students who have passed Class 12th (or equivalent) or appearing in Class 12th exam, in any stream (Science, Commerce, or Arts & Humanities) are eligible to appear for UCEED.
