Bihar Board Topper Success Story: The Bihar Board Intermediate results were released on Tuesday, March 25. Girls have excelled across all streams, with Ankita from Vaishali district topping the Arts stream with 473 marks, and Roshni Kumari leading Commerce with 475 marks. Meanwhile, Priya Jaiswal from a remote area in West Champaran has topped the Science stream with an impressive 484 marks.
Priya’s name is no stranger to the list of toppers. In 2023, she secured the eighth position in the state in the Bihar Board 10th examination. This year, her triumph at the top has brought immense joy to her family and her entire village. Priya prepared through online classes and self-study, showcasing incredible determination and resilience.
Priya hails from Dhumwatand village in the Harnatand block, a remote area near the dense forests of the Valmiki Tiger Reserve. Reaching her village involves traversing a dirt road, a river, and a forest for about one and a half kilometres. Her father, Santosh Jaiswal, operates a flour mill in Harnatand.
After completing her 10th standard, Priya enrolled in the nearby Government State Sponsored Higher Secondary School for her 12th standard. Remarkably, through online classes and self-study, Priya achieved a top rank in the state with 96.8 percent marks, including perfect scores in Chemistry and near-perfect in Biology.
Speaking to Local 18, Priya shared her aspiration to study medicine, which led her to choose biology in the science stream. Her exceptional performance included 98 in Biology, 100 in Chemistry, 95 in Physics, 97 in English, and 94 in Hindi, totalling 484 marks.
Priya’s father recounts that their area was once a Naxalite stronghold, with constant threats and deadly clashes between local administration and Naxalites just five years ago. The family faced grave challenges, relying on labour work for their livelihood. Despite these hardships, they never compromised on their children’s education. This commitment bore fruit when Priya’s elder sister Preeti secured fourth position in the state in the science stream with 469 marks in 2023.
Santosh Jaiswal has three daughters and two sons. The eldest daughter, Soni Jaiswal, is followed by Preeti, then Priya, and two younger brothers. Notably, in 2023, Preeti was fourth in the 12th science examination, and Priya was eighth in the 10th examination. The achievements continued in 2024 when Priya’s younger brother Aditya secured 95 percent marks with 475 and ranked second in the district in the Bihar Board 10th examination.
