CBI Busts Railway Exam Paper Leak; 26 Officials Held, Rs 1.17 Crore Cash Seized – News18

The CBI on Tuesday arrested 26 East Central Railway officials, including a senior divisional electrical engineer, for allegedly leaking a departmental exam paper and seized Rs 1.17 crore in cash during raids.

The CBI has arrested 26 railway officials, including a senior divisional electrical engineer of East Central Railway, in connection with the leak of a departmental exam paper for the promotion of chief loco pilots at Mughal Sarai. The arrests were made on Monday night, just hours before the scheduled exam on Tuesday, which has now been cancelled.

During late-night checks on March 3-4, CBI officials caught 17 loco pilots with photocopies of hand-written question papers. All 17 candidates had allegedly paid bribes for access to the leaked papers and were caught red-handed.

According to officials, the paper was prepared by the senior divisional electrical engineer himself, who then handed it over to a loco pilot for translation into Hindi. From there, it was circulated among several officials before reaching the candidates.

Searches at eight locations led to the recovery of ₹1.17 crore in cash, reportedly collected from the candidates in exchange for the leaked question paper.

CBI officials confirmed that the seized hand-written question papers matched the original exam papers, sealing the case against the accused.
