CBSE Class 12th Board 2025 Exams: What was the difficulty level of History paper?

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) held the Class 12 History exam on April 1. The paper, according to most students were moderate. The CBSE Class 12 History exam was held between 10.30 am and 1.30 pm.

According to Viewla, PGT History at Silverline Prestige School, Ghaziabad, students found the history paper easy to moderate. Questions were based on the prescribed history syllabus and NCERT books.

“In the MCQ section, some questions were direct and easy, whereas others were a bit tricky. Short-answer questions were also easy. Case-based questions were short to read but the questions based on source and case were easy except for one case related to the Upanishad, which students found difficult. Map-based questions were direct,” the teacher added.

As per Shashi Singh, PGT History, Global Indian International School, Noida, the CBSE Class 12 History question paper emphasised a thorough understanding of concepts. Many questions, Singh added, were similar to those from previous years, which may have benefited students by making the paper more familiar and approachable and this familiarity likely boosted their confidence and improved overall performance.

“The paper was well-balanced, strictly adhering to the syllabus and prescribed CBSE textbooks. Overall, it was considered easy, though a few multiple-choice questions were slightly tricky. Both short and long-answer questions were clear and direct, allowing students to present their responses effectively. Source-based questions were simple and manageable, ensuring that well-prepared students could attempt them with ease. The map-based questions were straightforward and familiar, making them easy to attempt for students who had practiced well. These questions tested their ability to identify and locate historically significant places, reinforcing their geographical understanding of historical events,” the PGT History teacher said.

The Class 12 History paper, according to Dr Santosh Kumar Jaiswal, PGT- History, VidyaGyan School, Bulandshahr, was as per the syllabus and blueprint, all the important topics were covered in the paper.

“It had a moderate difficulty level, making it fair for students. The paper included different types of multiple-choice questions like assertion and reasoning, identification, match the column, odd one out, and competency-based questions, giving a well-rounded test of knowledge and understanding to the students,” Dr Jaiswal said.

Chinmaya Chauhan, PGT – History, Seth Anandram Jaipuria School, Ghaziabad, however, while analysing the paper said: “It was a mix of easy and moderately difficult questions. Many questions were along expected lines. There were several application-based questions. The section on source-based questions included questions that required students to have an in-depth understanding of the concepts and were a little time-consuming. Students who studied regularly throughout the year, read the NCERT textbooks thoroughly and insisted on conceptual clarity, are sure to come out with flying colours.”
