Shlokaa Upadhyaya, a student of Delhi Public School, R.N Extension, Ghaziabad, excelled in the CBSE Class 12 examination, securing an impressive 99.8 per cent. Unlike many, she dedicated two to three hours every day for revision and slightly more time on weekends.

With consistent effort, she finished the Class 12 syllabus in November and braced herself for the last haul involving day-long revisions during the exam season. She scored 499 out of 500 in the CBSE board exams.

Reflecting on her achievement, she admitted she hadn’t expected such a high score. “We didn’t expect marks this high. My parents, teachers, and I were confident I would do well because I had consistently received good grades in school,” she said.

Apart from academics, Shlokaa enjoys reading, listening to music, and swimming. A passionate vocalist, she has represented her school in several competitions. With a growing love for music, she began learning classical vocals a year ago and now plans to explore instruments as well. “I’ve always been a singer, but now I want to learn to play instruments too,” she shared. “I’m planning to pick up either the guitar or the keyboard after my CUET UG exams. Once you start learning something, it just makes you want to keep learning more.”

Looking ahead, Shlokaa intends to pursue an honours degree in Geography and History, with hopes of gaining admission to Delhi University’s prestigious Miranda House. Her ultimate goal is to join the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). “Becoming an IAS officer has been a long-standing dream,” she said. “My parents have always supported me, and they were the first ones to encourage me to pursue civil services.”

Festive offer

For future board aspirants, Shlokaa offered some thoughtful advice: “Don’t tie yourself to labels like ‘national topper’ or ‘state topper.’ Just stay focused and prioritise learning. It’s not about the number of hours you study, but how well you use that time. Even if you study for just two hours, make sure you remember what you’ve learned.”

This year, more than 42 lakh students appeared for the CBSE board examinations conducted from February 15 to April 4, 2025. Class 10 board exams concluded on March 18, while Class 12 exams wrapped up on April 4.
