Chennai is expected to witness heavy rainfall on Thursday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Rains lashed Chennai and nearby districts of Tiruvallur and Chengalpattu on Wednesday, influenced by a well-marked low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. Due to the widespread rains, traffic congestion was reported in several areas, including Teynampet, causing inconvenience to road users.

“Light to moderate rain at a few places (at many places over North Coastal Tamil Nadu and at a few places over the rest of Tamil Nadu) with thunderstorms and lightning at one or two places is likely to occur over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and the Karaikal area,” reads the daily bulletin of the weather agency.

‘Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu and Kanchipuram districts. Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Villupuram, Cuddalore districts and Puducherry,’ it further added.

Chennai Schools Open Today

There is no official announcement regarding school holidays on Thursday in Tamil Nadu. Schools are open today, as confirmed by News18.com after verifying with some schools.

There has been no official update regarding the closure of schools till now. Parents and students are encouraged to contact school administrations for updates.

Gurugram, Faridabad Schools Shifts To Hybrid Mode

The Haryana School Education Department issued instructions on Wednesday night, directing all government and private schools in Gurugram and Faridabad to adopt a hybrid mode of teaching for all classes except Grades 10 and 12 until December 21, 2024. Starting today, December 19, 2024, all schools in both districts have transitioned to the hybrid mode.
