The Delhi High Court recently directed the Consortium of National Law Universities (CNLUs) to revise the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) results 2025. The Consortium has now announced plans to approach the Supreme Court to seek relief from the Delhi High Court’s directive to revise the CLAT 2025 merit list.

This means, that there will be a delay in the CLAT 2025 counselling process, the Consortium has said in an official notice. A revised schedule will be released soon after a resolution has been reached. As per the earlier counselling schedule, the Consortium was set to release the first seat allotment result today, December 26, 2024.

Students Allege Errors In Question Paper

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2025, conducted on December 1 for undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) admissions, saw its final answer key published on December 7. Subsequently, several aspirants raised objections to the CLAT PG final answer key, pointing out alleged errors. They also criticized the “unreasonable” fee of Rs 1,000 per question for submitting objections.

Petition Filed In HC

An aspirant had filed a writ petition challenging the final answer key and sought a revision of his result. The petitioner, a 17-year-old candidate, Aditya Singh, who had appeared for the CLAT 2025 UG exam also demanded corrections to the remaining contested questions. He claimed that due to the errors in the answer key, he lost marks which affected his admission to top institutes.

Delhi HC Finds Two Errors In CLAT 2025 Question Paper

Last week, the Delhi High Court identified two errors in Set A of the question paper. This includes questions 14 and 100. “The errors in question Nos 14 and 100 are demonstrably clear and shutting a blind eye to the same would be an injustice to the petitioner albeit this Court is conscious of the fact that it may impact the result of other candidates,” the court had stated.

Responding to a writ petition, the Delhi High Court directed the Consortium to revise the merit list published on December 7 on its official website, consortiumofnlus.ac.in. On December 20, a single-judge bench ruled that answers to two questions in the entrance test were incorrect and instructed the Consortium to update the merit list accordingly. Following this, the Delhi High Court’s division bench declined to overturn the single bench’s order.

What The Consortium Said?

The CNLUs filed an appeal in the division bench of Delhi HC but it didn’t intervene in the single-judge bench order. Hence, the Consortium will be approaching the SC for appropriate relief against the order at the earliest, it stated.

“We wish to inform you that the single bench of Hon’ble Delhi High Court had issued an order directing the Consortium to revisit the Merit List published on December 7, 2024. In response, we filed an appeal in division bench of Delhi HC, however division bench didn’t intervene the single judge bench order. We are approaching the SC for appropriate relief against this order at the earliest available date due to vacation,” the official notice states.

It further added that the counselling process would be delayed and a new schedule would be released after the appeal process. “We understand that this development may result in some delay in the scheduled counselling process, and we assure you that the Consortium is committed to ensuring transparency and fairness in the process. Consequently, the release of the first admission list for NLUs, originally scheduled for December 26, will be delayed and there on the counselling process. The fresh calendar to be announced after our SC appeal process and expected relief,” the notice added.
