Globally, many students face financial barriers when seeking university admission. Some foundations offer scholarships to exceptionally talented international students, including Indians, who struggle to afford tuition fees, helping them achieve their academic goals.

Given below are some of the common international scholarships that are available, especially for Indian graduates for admission in the degree of Masters.

The common international scholarships available are:

1.       The Paul Foundation Scholarship

The Paul Foundation awards scholarships to Indian students for post-graduate studies in India or abroad, fostering intellectual excellence.

Eligibility: Any eligible Indian student holding a first-class degree of their highest qualification, i.e., undergraduate.

Scholarship Amount: The value that would cover full expenses of academic, travel, and living for two years.

How to Apply: The candidates need to submit the duly filled – in application forms of the foundation with a comprehensive official evidence of the candidate’s academic achievements and the letter of application, along with the receipt/acknowledgement for admission to a course of study in the top ranked universities, institutes or centers, in India or abroad. Along with the academic records, a 2000 word essay,

Applicants must submit a 300-word personal profile and statement of purpose, outlining their understanding of their subject. This will assess their academic potential. The final interviews will take place in June – July every year. All the applicants must be available for interviews in India. Candidates who do not receive any communication must assume their application to be unsuccessful.

2.       Bharat Petroleum Scholarships

This scholarship rewards students who showcase exceptional all-around talent and a drive to excel in their chosen field.

Eligibility: Any eligible international students who are able to demonstrate their all-around brilliance and have a passion for achieving excellence

in their chosen field.
Scholarship Amount: The value that would be covering full expenses of academic, travel,l and living for two years.

Common International Scholarships for Indian Students3.       Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan


The Commonwealth Scholarship offers international scholarships to Commonwealth citizens, funded by countries like India, Canada, the UK, and Australia.

Eligibility: Any eligible international students who are able to demonstrate their all-around brilliance, have a passion for achieving excellence in their chosen field, hold a bachelor’s or equivalent degree, and belong to a Commonwealth country are eligible for this scholarship.

Scholarship Amount: The value that would cover full expenses of academic, travel, and living for the total duration of the course.

How to Apply: The candidates need to log in, fill up, and submit their application form online, which is available on the website.

4.       Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarships

The Aga Khan Foundation offers postgraduate scholarships to exceptional students from developing countries for careers within the AKDN network.

Eligibility: Any international candidates who have consistently excellent academic records, genuine financial need, a call letter for the admission to a highly reputable university or programme of study, and a relevance of the field of study to AKDN’s focus areas.

Scholarship Amount: The amount that would be covering the expenses of academics, tuition fees, books, living and accommodation, etc., will be given, but half of the scholarship amount will be considered a loan, which must be reimbursed with an annual service charge of 5%.

How to Apply: The candidates need to obtain application forms as of January 1st each year from AKF offices or Aga Khan Education Services / Boards in their countries of current residence. The completed applications should be returned to the agency from which the form was obtained. They should not be sent to Geneva.
