The National Testing Agency (NTA) has revised the exam pattern for the Accountancy subject in the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) Undergraduate (UG) 2025, introducing a significant change aimed at offering more flexibility to candidates. As per the update, students will now be allowed to choose between questions from Unit V and an optional unit in the Accountancy paper. The change comes after several students raised concerns about the structure of the paper during the first phase of the exam held earlier in May. The revised pattern will be applicable starting May 22, 2025.

Optional unit introduced in accountancy paper

The most notable revision in the Accountancy syllabus pertains to Unit V – Computerised Accounting Systems, which has now been made optional. Under the new format, candidates can either attempt questions from Unit V or opt for an alternative unit, depending on their preference and preparation. This aims to reduce pressure on students unfamiliar with computerised accounting systems or those who focused more on traditional topics. The decision to revise the pattern mid-cycle was taken by the NTA following feedback and in consultation with academic experts. The agency said the update is designed to “maintain parity and fairness for all candidates,” especially those who will take the exam in the remaining schedule starting May 22.

Retake option for students who took the exam earlier

In a move to ensure equal opportunity, the NTA has also provided an option to retake the Accountancy paper for candidates who appeared for the subject between May 13 and May 16, 2025. These students can choose to retain their original test scores or reappear for the revised version of the paper. The choice must be confirmed through the official CUET website.Apart from the changes in Accountancy, the NTA has confirmed that all CUET UG 2025 exams will be conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode, and optional questions have been eliminated from all subjects to bring CUET in line with national-level exams like NEET and JEE.

What candidates should do

Students are advised to review the updated syllabus and exam structure carefully. Those eligible for a retake should weigh their performance before opting in. Mock tests and regular updates from the official CUET website will be crucial for staying prepared under the revised format. For official details and notifications, visit the official examination website, cuet.nta.nic.in
