Days after the Kottayam ragging horror, another student in Kerala’s Kunnur district alleged ragging, claiming that he was thrashed and his arm was broken for “not showing respect to seniors”.
The police registered a case against five students under the sections of the Bharat Nyay Samhita.
Muhammed Nihal, a Plus One student, equivalent to Class 11, at Kolavallur PR Memorial School, alleged in the police complaint that his hand was broken in an attack by five students. He claimed that the seniors assaulted him in a group.
He was later admitted to Thalassery Cooperative Hospital for treatment.
The latest case of ragging came days after first-year students in a nursing college in Kottayam became victims of brutal ragging, leading to the arrests of five-third year students. A video of a ragging session had also surfaced showing students being tortured.
The Opposition had alleged that the accused in the case were linked to the ruling Left’s student wing, Students Federation of India.
An investigation into the latest Kunnur case is underway.
