CHANDIGARH: The faculty of nursing of the Desh Bhagat University celebrated breastfeeding week. It was pointed out that breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to ensure child health and survival and yet currently, less than half of infants under six months old are exclusively breastfed.

Dr Lovesampuranjot Kaur, officiating director of faculty of nursing, said that breast milk is the ideal food for infants. It is safe, clean and contains antibodies which help protect against many common childhood illnesses. Breastfed children are less likely to be overweight or obese and less prone to diabetes later in life, she said.

She said this year the theme for the breastfeeding week is “Let’s make breastfeeding and work, work” Dr Prabhjot Singh, HOD, Faculty of Nursing, thanked the chief guest, faculty members and students for participating in the event and proposed a vote of thanks.
Gurwinder Kaur, nursing tutor of the faculty of nursing, welcomed Dr Zora Singh, Chancellor of Desh Bhagat University as the chief guest.
