Dean of PMC-run medical college held in bribery case to allot MBBS seat – Times of India

An ACB release stated that Banginwar had demanded Rs16 lakh from the medical practitioner. His son was already allotted an MBBS seat in the same college run by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) through the institutional quota in the first round of the Centralised Admission Process. Banginwar made the demand in addition to the Rs22.5 lakh annual fees charged by the college in accordance with the state norms, the release stated.
The medical practitioner, who is a resident of another district of Maharashtra, lodged a complaint with the ACB. An ACB team, headed by superintendent of police Amol Tambe, laid a trap at the dean’s office in the college at Mangalwar Peth on Tuesday evening. Banginwar was caught taking Rs10 lakh as first instalment of the bribe amount, the release added.

A case for offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered by the Samarth police on the basis of a complaint lodged by the ACB. “We will conduct search at Banginwar’s office and residential premises as part of our further investigation,” an ACB officer said.
