The Directorate of Education launched ‘Maa Yamuna Swachhta Abhiyan’ to teach students about water conservation and the Yamuna River’s importance.

The Directorate of Education has initiated a year-long campaign called ‘Maa Yamuna Swachhta Abhiyan’ to highlight the significance of keeping the River Yamuna clean. This initiative aims to educate students on water conservation and the importance of preserving the Yamuna River.
According to the official circular by the DoE, the campaign will run from July 2025 to March 2026 and will involve government, government-aided, and private schools under the Directorate’s purview.
According to the circular, schools are directed to conduct monthly activities. The campaign kicks off in July with essay writing on the importance of a clean Yamuna. In August, drawing and painting competitions will be held, followed by speeches, debates, and skits on water conservation and pollution in September.
October will feature Yamuna pledge drives and awareness walks. Additionally, cultural programs related to the Yamuna will be included in annual school functions.

The circular also mentions that the campaign, in collaboration with NSS units and local Delhi Jal Board offices, will organize interactive sessions, motivational talks, and exhibitions to engage students effectively.
The initiative aims to foster a stronger sense of environmental responsibility among students while supporting ongoing conservation efforts.
11th Humanity Olympiad In Delhi
Meanwhile, the Delhi government is set to conduct the 11th Humanity Olympiad, along with the Spiritual Eloquence Oratory Contest and the Spiritual Echoes Poetry Recitation Contest, across all government schools in the national capital, as reported by PTI.
According to the official statement, these initiatives aim to foster human values and moral development among students from classes 5 to 12. The 11th Humanity Olympiad is an innovative multiple-choice examination focused on moral education. It encourages students to reflect on core human values through structured questions and learning modules, it read.
The Directorate of Education has instructed all Heads of Government Schools under the Department of Education to appoint a teacher-coordinator, preferably a Post Graduate Teacher (PGT), to facilitate student participation in the programme.
The final round and prize distribution will be held on September 7 on World Equanimity Day at Satyug Darshan Vasundhara in Faridabad.
