Two types of bouncers, male and female, were deployed at DPS Dwarka who were told which children should be stopped at the gate.
As soon as the parents reached DPS Dwarka to protest, they saw that a large number of bouncers were deployed at all the four gates (News18 Hindi)
For the last one month, parents have been continuously protesting in front of DPS school regarding increase in fees. Students unable to pay fees were sometimes held hostage in the library, and sometimes made to sit in the sun in the playground. Now, the school has deployed a large number of bouncers and guards at the gate to stop the parents and their children. The bouncers also pushed the children and parents.
Fed up with this, the parents reached the Directorate of Education on Tuesday and staged a protest demanding strict action from the directorate as well as the government and the administration against the increased fees.
Mahesh Mishra, National General Secretary of Rashtriya Yuva Chetna Manch, said that for the last two months, parents have been protesting at the gate of DPS Dwarka. They want to pay only approved fees and not arbitrary fees. Despite the protest going on for two months, no action has been taken against DPS Dwarka till now.
The matter has now reached the court. Mishra also pointed that there has been strict action despite the show cause notice issued by the Directorate of Education. Due to this, the need for a strong regulatory mechanism is being felt to ensure strict monitoring and accountability in the operation of private schools.
Bouncer pushed and shoved
Mishra said that as soon as the parents reached DPS Dwarka to protest, they saw that a large number of bouncers were deployed at all the four gates. Two types of bouncers, male and female, were deployed and they were told which parents should not be allowed to enter and which children should be stopped at the gate, he said.
He added that different guards were stationed at the gate, which was quite surprising. The bouncer even pushed the children. This incident is affecting the children’s education and mindset and is a form of child exploitation. By raising fees, parents are being treated like ATMs, he said. If this education mafia isn’t stopped, parents will soon have to find alternative ways to educate their children, he further stated.
One of the parents, Sakshi, who reached the Directorate of Education to protest, said that everything is in the knowledge of the government, but why is the government not taking action on this. Schools are continuously charging fees arbitrarily. The parents are middle class and from where will they be able to pay such fees.
Another parent, Vishal, who attended the protest, expressed that private schools act as they wish. They raise the fees every year and require new uniforms, notebooks, and books each time. Instead of adhering to the approved fees, schools impose arbitrary charges, citing various reasons. Children receive little in the name of education while fees keep mounting. Tuition is charged separately, and each year, beyond regular fees, parents are asked to pay additional amounts for activities or programs. This needs to stop, he added.
