Education Budget 2025: A total of three Centres Of Excellence In AI for education will be set up with 500 cr outlay. Furthermore, IITs will be expanded as well as medical education will be put to focus this year with increase in number of seats.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has presented the Union Education Budget 2025 today, February 1. During her eighth budget, she announced a Centre Of Excellence in AI for education will be set up with a 500 cr outlay. In the 2023 Union Budget, she had announced three Centres of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence for Agriculture, Health, and Sustainable Cities.
Furthermore, IITs will be expanded this year. Additional infrastructure will be created in five IITs that were started after 2014 to facilitate education for 6500 more students. The FM also mentioned that hostel and infrastructure facilities at IIT Patna will also be expanded.

“The capacity of IITs will be expanded. The total number of students in the 23 IITs has increased by 100%, from 65,000 to 1.35 lakh in the past 10 years. Additional infrastructure will be created in the five IITs established after 2014 to accommodate 6,500 more students. The hostel and other infrastructure capacity at IIT Patna will also be expanded….”, Sitharaman said.
She further stated that a National Institute of Food Technology and Management will be set up in Bihar to boost farmers’ income, provide skilling opportunities, and create employment for the youth. Medical education will be a huge focus this year with an increase in the number of seats.
In 2024, the FM announced that the Centre would allocate Rs 1.48 lakh crore in education, employment, and skill development. Students pursuing higher education at domestic institutions would be eligible for loan assistance of up to Rs 10 lakh.
A new centrally funded scheme to be launched in partnership with state governments and companies to train around 20 lakh youth over five years. 1,000 ITIs will be updated, with training content and design linked to industry skill requirements. Sitharaman also stated that the government will provide internships to one crore youths, with each intern getting a stipend of Rs 5,000 and a one-time aid of Rs 6, 000. Companies will use their CSR funds for the government’s internship scheme.
During the Interim Budget 2024 speech, Sitharaman she said that more medical colleges will be set up and a committee will be formed to examine this purpose.
