LUCKNOW: At the second edition of the ET Digital UP Conclave, experts emphasized the urgent need for educational institutions to align their curricula with evolving industry demands to enhance graduate employability. In the panel discussion titled “Skilling UP – Building a Future-Ready Workforce,” held on May 23, 2025, in Lucknow, officials and thought leaders highlighted the significant gap between academic training and market requirements.MK Shanmuga Sundaram, Principal Secretary of Labour & Employment, pointed out that nearly 50% of college graduates are not industry-ready. He advocated for regular consultations between educational institutions and industry experts to update curricula with relevant skills, including proficiency in artificial intelligence and problem-solving.
GS Naveen Kumar, Secretary of Irrigation and Water Resources, emphasized AI’s growing role in governance and the importance of human expertise to complement it. He called for significant advancements in vocational education to meet the demands of a technology-driven economy.
Hari Om, Principal Secretary of Vocational Education and Skill Development, highlighted the state’s efforts in modernizing over 200 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) with courses in cutting-edge fields like electric vehicle repair, robotics, and laser cutting, while continuing to support core trades. He stressed the importance of promoting entrepreneurship and self-reliance among the youth.
The event also saw the launch of Glance AI by InMobi, a culturally intelligent commerce platform. Subi Chaturvedi, Chief Corporate Affairs and Policy Officer at InMobi, hailed it as a symbol of India’s transition from a technology user to a global innovator, showcasing Uttar Pradesh’s leadership in the digital revolution.
The conclave underscored the necessity for a collaborative approach between academia and industry to equip students with the skills required for the future workforce.
