Summer Vacation 2025: The state education departments and boards will decide the dates of summer holidays for schools in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Heatwave alert has been issued in most states. Temperatures are being recorded above 41.8 degrees in some areas of Delhi. Efforts have been made to provide relief to children by changing school timings but children are waiting for the announcement of summer vacation. The state education departments and boards will decide the dates of summer holidays for schools in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

The date of summer vacation depends on the weather conditions in the state. Sometimes holidays are also declared on the basis of districts. Even after the notice of the Education Department and the Board, the District Magistrates have the right to take a decision at their discretion. Most of the states in North India will have summer holidays in May-June. The exact information about when your school will be closed will be available from the school itself. But till then know the tentative schedule of Summer Vacation 2025.

Uttar Pradesh: Last year, schools in Uttar Pradesh were closed from May 20 to June 15. This year too, the final decision will be taken considering the heat and temperature. According to the UP Basic Education Department, summer vacations usually start from May 15-20. Noida and other districts are also likely to follow the same time frame. However, some private schools of CBSE/ICSE board can also take a decision on their own. Holidays can be extended in case of heatwave.

Bihar: In the year 2024, the Bihar Education Department had kept the summer holidays from 15 April to 15 May. This year the summer vacation in Bihar schools is likely to be from 2 to 21 June. However, the final approval is still awaited. If the heat increases, the summer vacation may start in May. The dates of summer vacation may be different in CBSE and ICSE schools. But schools affiliated to Bihar Board will have to follow the government calendar.

Delhi: A heatwave alert has been issued in the country’s capital Delhi. The temperature had slightly decreased due to the storm in between, but not much difference was seen. Summer vacation in government schools of Delhi can start from May 11, 2025 (estimated). Schools remain closed for about 50 days in summer here. Even if summer vacations start in May, schools are likely to open only from July 01, 2025. Vacations in private schools located in Delhi also start in the second week of May.

Madhya Pradesh: The summer vacation schedule in the Madhya Pradesh holiday calendar is from May 1 to June 15, 2025. Here children will get 46 days of summer vacation. However, changes in these dates are possible considering the weather. School teachers of Madhya Pradesh will have to resume duty from June 1 to prepare for the new session. Their summer vacation will be less compared to students. Holidays may be extended in some districts of MP depending on the heatwave situation, as happened in 2024.

Rajasthan: The Rajasthan School Education Department had declared summer holidays from 17 May to 23 June in 2024. Then it was extended in various districts based on the weather. Summer vacation is also likely to start in mid-May in 2025. Actually, the temperature in Rajasthan remains high in May and June. Summer vacation in Rajasthan will be decided on the basis of heatwave. Here too, private schools can decide on holidays as per their own convenience.

West Bengal: Schools across West Bengal will commence summer vacation on April 30. Every year, summer vacation starts on May 9 and continues till May 20. “Since the heat is extremely high, there will be a vacation from April 30 so that students do not face any problems,” Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had said. The summer vacation was initially  scheduled to fall between May 12 and May 23.
