G20 Meet to begin in Amritsar tomorrow – Times of India

AMRITSAR: The 2nd Education Working Group Meeting of G20 will begin in Amritsar from March 15 to 17. The meeting will focus on furthering the discussion held during the 1st G20 Education Working Group meeting held in Chennai from February 1 to 2.
Notably, India holds the Presidency of the G20 from 1 December 2022 to 30 November 2023.
Best practices in Tech related education in member countries were discussed in a major way with a focus on areas to ensure inclusive, equitable, relevant, and quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all, within the theme of “One Earth, One Family, One Future”.
During India’s G20 Presidency, the Education Working Group will be focusing on four priority areas including issues of Foundational Literacy and Numeracy, Tech enabled learning, the Future of work, and Research and innovation collaboration.
The G20 was founded in 1999 after the Asian financial crisis as a forum for Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors to discuss global economic and financial issues. The forum was later upgraded to the level of heads of state and government in the wake of the global economic and financial crisis of 2007, and, in 2009, was designated the “premier forum for international economic cooperation.
The G20 comprises 19 countries including India, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkiye, United Kingdom and United States and European Union.
The G20 Summit is held annually, under the leadership of the rotating Presidency. The G20 initially focused largely on broad macroeconomic issues but it has since expanded its agenda to inter-alia including trade, sustainable development, health , agriculture, energy, environment, climate change and anti-corruption.
Meanwhile a group of panelists and delegates of G20 countries who have arrived in the holy city to participate in the Y20 Consultation Summit being held at Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) on March 15 paid obeisance at Golden Temple and visited the Jallianwala Bagh on Tuesday.
Talking to media persons Naveen Kumar from the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Prof. Sarbjot Singh Behl, Dean Academic Affairs and Nodal Officer; Prof. Preet Mohinder Singh Bedi, Dean, Student Welfare and Prof. Sukhpreet Singh,and others informed about the programs, scope, and objectives related to Y-20.
Behl said that Youth 20 (Y20) was an official Engagement Group for youth from all G20 member countries for having dialogues and discussions with each other. Y20 encouraged youth as future leaders to raise awareness of global issues, exchange ideas, argue, negotiate, and reach a consensus. He said that multiple international events were planned all over India as part of the Youth20 engagement group. Out of these events, Youth consultations would be hosted by universities.
He said that the events were based on five themes including Peacebuilding and Reconciliation: Ushering in an Era of No War; Future of Work: Industry 4.0, Innovation, & 21st Century Skills; Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction: Making Sustainability a Way of Life; Health, Wellbeing & Sports: Agenda for Youth; Shared Future: Youth in Democracy and Governance.
He said that the main event would be held in the Golden Jubilee Convention Centre of the GNDU on March 15, 2023. In the panel discussion, the main theme would be “Future of Work: Industry 4.0, Innovation, & 21st Century Skills. Harjot Singh Bains, Higher Education Minister, Secretary Higher Education and Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice Chancellor will also participate in this event.
