G20 Summit: JNU to Keep Only North Gate Open from September 7 to 11 – News18

The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) released a notice, sharing an update on the restrictions by the Delhi government for the upcoming G20 Summit. According to the circular, only the North Gate (Main Gate) of the JNU campus will remain open from September 7 to 11.

“In view of the restrictions imposed by the Govt of NCT of Delhi and overall security concerns, only North Gate (Main Gate) of the JNU Campus will remain open from 09:00 PM on Sep 7, 2023 to 06:00 AM Sep 11, 2023,” read the JNU notice undersigned by Chief Security Officer, Naveen Yadav.

The notice further states that all other gates in the university will remain closed during the G20 Summit. This has been done owing to the security concerns during the summit.

Due to the G20 Summit in the national capital, all schools, colleges, and offices in Delhi will be closed from September 8 to 10. Even private offices, educational and other institutions located in the national capital will remain shut.

At least two dozen world leaders will attend the two-day summit, which begins on Saturday, September 9. The much-awaited event is scheduled at Pragati Maidan’s newly completed international conference and exposition facility, Bharat Mandapam from September 9 to September 10.

On September 6, the central government launched the ‘G20 India’ app to facilitate communication between Indian and international delegations.

While addressing a press conference, Delhi’s Education Minister, Atishi Marlena said that all measures will be taken to avoid inconveniences due to traffic restrictions and events scheduled across the city. The Delhi government is ready to welcome the foreign delegates as all the preparations for the upcoming G20 Summit are complete.

On September 5, the Delhi government published a gazette notification outlining traffic restrictions around the national capital in preparation for the impending conference.

According to the notification, from midnight on September 7 to 11:59 pm on September 10, various vehicle types, such as goods vehicles, interstate buses, commercial vehicles, and local city buses, will be prohibited from operating on Mathura Road (beyond Ashram Chowk), Purana Quila Road, Bhairon Road, and inside Pragati Maidan Tunnel.

Additionally, vehicles carrying essential commodities such as milk, fruits, medical supplies, vegetables, and others with valid ‘Entry Permission’ will be allowed to enter Delhi.
