Know everything about PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, on 1 February, highlighted agriculture as a key pillar of India’s economic growth while presenting the Union Budget 2025-26. She announced several new initiatives, including the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, aimed at transforming the agricultural sector.
Inspired by the Aspirational Districts Programme of 2018, this scheme focuses on enhancing agricultural productivity, encouraging crop diversification, and promoting sustainable farming. It also aims to improve post-harvest storage at the panchayat and block levels, expand irrigation facilities, and ensure better access to credit for farmers. Expected to benefit 1.7 crore farmers, the scheme provides direct assistance based on land type and location, eliminating the need for complex registration. What Is PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana?
The Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana is a visionary initiative launched by the central government to enhance agricultural productivity and improve land fertility. The scheme primarily focuses on increasing irrigation facilities and ensuring that farmers have access to high-quality seeds and fertilisers, ultimately boosting crop yields. It is specifically designed to support infertile, barren, and underdeveloped agricultural land, transforming it into cultivable and productive areas while providing crucial assistance to farmers.
This initiative will be implemented in close coordination with state governments, integrating various existing agricultural programmes to maximise its impact. The scheme will target 100 districts that currently exhibit below-average agricultural performance, moderate levels of crop intensity, and low overall productivity. By concentrating efforts in these regions, the government aims to uplift farming communities, enhance land utilisation, and promote sustainable agricultural practices. Through this structured approach, the PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana seeks to strengthen the agricultural sector and ensure long-term benefits for farmers across the country.

Aim Of PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana
As announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana is designed to:
- Boost farm output and overall agricultural efficiency
- Promote crop diversification and encourage eco-friendly farming techniques
- Strengthen post-harvest storage infrastructure at the panchayat and block levels
- Expand irrigation facilities for better water management
- Ensure easy access to both short-term and long-term credit for farmers
Despite these new initiatives, the budget allocation for the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare has seen only a modest increase of around 4 per cent, rising from Rs 1.32 lakh crore in the previous budget to Rs 1.37 lakh crore this year. The funding for the PM-Kisan scheme remains unchanged at Rs 63,500 crore, aligning with the revised estimates for the 2024-25 fiscal year but exceeding the initial budget estimate of Rs 60,000 crore from the previous financial year.
