The Board Exam Pattern modifications have been made in the Gujarat Class 10, and 12 exams keeping in mind the National Education Policy 2020

Following a meeting presided over by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and attended by Education Minister Kuber Dindor along with senior officials, the Gujarat state government has announced modifications in class 10 and 12 board exams starting from the academic session 2023–24. The changes have been made in the Gujarat Class 10, and 12 examination patterns keeping in mind the National Education Policy 2020.

One of the key modifications announced by the Gujarat board included a hike of 10 per cent in objective questions from 20 to 30 per cent. The share of descriptive questions on the other hand has declined from 30 to 20 per cent.

Moreover, in order to improve their performance, Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) class 12 science students can appear in either one or all of the supplementary exams (June–July). Among these, the best of the two will be considered, by the state government.

In addition to that, class 10 students were allowed to take supplementary exams in two subjects previously. However, the limit is now set to three subjects. Similarly, class 12 general stream students can now appear in compartment exams for two subjects rather than one.

In the Class 12 science stream, a total of 50 per cent of the MCQs have been retained. However, changes have been announced for the rest of the 50 per cent descriptive questions. Additionally, starting this year, students will not be provided with internal choices. Rather, they will be given choices and general options along with the question paper.

Meanwhile, the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has released the Class 12 and Class 10 board exam dates for 2024. As per the Gujarat Board exam schedule 2024, the Class 12 science stream and Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSC) will be administered from March 11 to March 26, 2024.

Students can visit the official website of the board at gseb.org and download the GSEB SSC timetable 2024 and GSEB HSC timetable 2024.

Earlier, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had also announced important changes for commerce stream students in the Class 12 Board Exam 2023–24. As per an official notification, the board has announced the discontinuation of printed tables in the answer book for the subject of accounting.

“It is informed that the Board Examination, 2024 CBSE, based on feedback received from stakeholders, has decided to do away with the Answer Books, wherein tables were provided in the subject of Accountancy. From Examinations 2024, normal lines of answer books as provided in other subjects in Class XII will also be provided in Accountancy subjects also,” the official notice read.
