How to gain global work experience without leaving home

If you’re looking for an exciting global experience this summer, want to enhance your professional development and would like to gain experience of working virtually, then TeamWork could be just what you’re looking for! This programme brings together small teams of students to work on a project.  It runs for 4 weeks, from 24 June -19 July and requires a commitment of up to 10 hours per week. Interested?  Here’s some more details on TeamWork and why it is an opportunity not to be missed…

So what’s a virtual project?

Just like any group project, you will be working in a team. The difference is that TeamWork enables you to come together in an online team, remotely with students from Warwick and other top ranked universities around the globe.  You’ll form part of a group of 6 students who will have the opportunity to collaborate online over a 4-week period on a project provided by an organisation.

We’ll set you up on Microsoft Teams in your dedicated project team, enabling you and your team to meet up online, share materials and the project progress. Project mentoring is provided to you and your team by the organisation whose project you’ll be working on.  As part of the programme, you will also be given induction training, plus support from a dedicated university contact before, during and after the project.

As well as being flexible and easily accessible, working online can provide you with valuable experience of remote communication and collaboration technology, team working and intercultural skills, all of which are in high demand by organisations and can give you a competitive edge when it comes to applying for internships and graduate roles. Virtual projects are also a great way of working directly with an organisation to gain work experience and insight into a particular industry sector.

What type of projects are available?

Projects will be provided by organisations around the world, in a range of different sectors – so they will be broad and varied!  Previous participating organisations have includedColgate Palmolive, Decathlon HK, Action for Development and Eurostar, plus MANY more.Importantly, the projects will not require any specific knowledge of the sector or topic, so you will be working with students from a wide variety of degree disciplines.

All projects will require a commitment of a minimum of 10 hours per week, on a part-time basis. It’s also worth noting that many of our organisation mentors are Warwick alumni.  They have been where you have been, may have experienced similar things and are willing to share their wisdom with you!

Work from anywhere!

TeamWork offers you opportunity to gain a global work experience from wherever you will be based around the world this summer without the need to leave your home.  There are no costly travel expenses or visa requirements for you to navigate, all you need is your laptop.

What do I need to participate?

All you need is access to a computer and the internet; and to be available part-time from 24 June-19 July. We will provide a free, easy to use Microsoft Teams platform, so you can connect with your team members, as well as with your organisation mentor and university contact.

Who can apply?

TeamWork is open to all UG and PG students studying at Warwick regardless of degree discipline or nationality. PLUS, if you are a student from a demographic group which is under-represented in Higher Education, you will qualify for a £400 bursary.
